This course for high school teachers is designed to improve your understanding of how teenagers use digital media to explore, create, learn, and connect with others. Through guided activities and access to revelant media, articles, and instructional materials, you will gain practical strategies to teacher your students the digital citizenship skills they need to harness the potential of technology for learning and life.

About This Course

Kids and teens today are using the immense power of digital media to explore, connect, create, and learn in ways never before imagined. With this power, young people have extraordinary opportunities, and yet they face potential pitfalls, too. Meanwhile, schools are dealing with the associated ramifications — like privacy and oversharing, cyberbullying, plagiarism, and risks to their safety and security. These issues underscore the need for students to learn — and for teachers to teach — digital citizenship skills.

In this course, you will learn about teens’ digital lives, exploring the challenges and opportunities they face. You will examine eight core topics of digital citizenship, and explore high-quality instructional materials to teach students to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in our digital world. You will also learn how to engage parents and families in a whole-community approach to digital citizenship.
